Helping Disney/ABC Television Group grow its digital programming services are technology execs John Solaro and Roger Tsai, who have been tapped to oversee user experience and innovation, and strategy and operations, respectively.

Former Microsoft exec Solaro, who is head of user experience and product innovation for Disney/ABC Television’s Digital Media group, will lead a team integrating visual design, interaction design, motion design and innovation across multi-platform products. He will also drive strategies incorporating new non-linear, mobile, direct-to-consumer and cloud products.

With 20 patents to his name, Solaro was most recently the principal design/UX director for Microsoft’s Xbox Design Studio, where he directed the design and user experience for Xbox software products including the Xbox One console, and he led design teams in areas related to social networks, digital stores, dashboards, live TV, system guides and gamification.

Hailing from media technology company Gracenote, where he led the company’s connected car efforts, Tsai steps into the role of VP of digital strategy, business planning and operations for Digital Media. He will be at the helm of a team focused on identifying, developing and helping to execute new digital business strategies.

Tsai will also leverage product and performance insights, identify opportunities and secure new capabilities, all with a focus on opportunities that drive audience acquisition, engagement, retention and advocacy.

Both Solaro and Tsai will report to John Frelinghuysen, EVP of digital media, strategy and business development for the group.
