Live-action sitcom So Awkward has been greenlit for a third series by UK pubcaster CBBC.

CBBC has commissioned UK-based prodco Channel X to produce another season of the show through its Salford-based arm Channel X North. The commission comes after the comedy won the 2016 Broadcast Award for Best Children’s Programme.

The second season of the 13 x half-hour series will air on CBBC this summer.

So Awkward was created by Julie Bower and produced by Sally Martin for Channel X North and commissioned by CBBC controller Cheryl Taylor.

This year marks Channel X’s 30th anniversary. The independent producer is behind BBC Four’s BAFTwinning Detectorists, BBC Two comedy Hebburn and the dark comedy Snuff Box. Channel X specializes in broken and narrative comedy, as well as comedy-entertainment formats and game shows. Currently, the prodco is in development with comedy, drama, animation and documentary projects for several of the UK’s major broadcasters.

CBBC also recently renewed  eight series and named the finalist for its first ANIM8 competition.
