Following the ratings success of kids cooking show First Class Chefs, Disney Channel UK and Ireland has commissioned First Class Chefs – Family Style, a short-form online spinoff series produced by chef Jamie Oliver’s studio Fresh One Productions.
Announced at the Children’s Media Conference taking place in Sheffield this week, the 10 x five-minute series will put contestants from season one (ages 10 to 12 from across the UK) on one of 10 teams. A family member of choice will be added to each team and the duos will compete in new rounds of healthy food-based cooking competitions.
In each standalone episode, two teams will square off, armed with just US$6.50 and one hour to create a healthy meal to be judged on menu selection, buying and cooking skills by the show’s host.
First Class Chefs – Family Style will air across Disney’s multiple digital platforms, including disneychannel.co.uk, DisneyLife and Disney Channel YouTube prior to its Disney Channel television debut this fall.
A host chef and presenter for the program will be announced in the coming weeks. The original series, which starred chef Michel Roux Jr., and was co-presented by The Evermoor Chronicles stars Georgia Lock and Finney Cassidy, became the top-rated children’s cooking show on UK pay-TV in 2015.
The First Class Chefs format supports Disney Channel’s strategy to broadcast more healthy living-related programming, which was implemented in early 2014.
