Televisa’s new SVOD service blim is hopeful that its newest slate of acquisitions can court young audiences who are increasingly watching their content online.
The eight-series slate includes six titles from Barcelona-based prodco Imira: Lucky Fred, Lola & Virginia, Sandra the Fairytale Detective, Yoohoo & Friends, Martin Mystery and Gaturro. The service has also acquired SpeedRacer – Next Generation from Imira parentco Toonz Entertainment, along with A Kind of Magic from French prodco Xilam.
The SVOD launched earlier this year in the US and Latin America, as Mexico-based Televisa seeks to take on Netflix in two powerful streaming markets.
While blim does not deal exclusively in kids titles, this spring has been devoted to building up its family-friendly slate. In March, blim nabbed 800 episodes of animated and live-action children’s programming from Canada’s 9 Story Media Group. And a month later, the SVOD struck a licensing deal with UK-based Cake Entertainment, gaining 800 episodes of premium kids content, including Wanda and the Alien, Poppy Cat and Trunk Train.
