Anima Estudios and Cartoon Network Latin America have joined forces in the pursuit of new animated projects that hail from young creators throughout Latin America.
The Mexico-based studio and CNLA have launched an open call for animated entries, where the winning short or series will eventually have airtime on the net’s various platforms in the region.
Creators can register comedy projects aimed at the six to 11 demo online through July 18. The winning project will be selected by a joint committee from Anima Estudios and Cartoon Network, and judgement will be based on concept, design, story, characters, technique and treatment.
The initiative puts Cartoon Network, which airs in more than 60 million Latin American households in Spanish, Portuguese and English, in closer contact with the region’s animation industry–one that happens to be positioned for growth following a recent partnership between Anima Estudios and the California Institute of the Arts. (CalArts’ continuing education pilot program will train professional artists and animators across the region.)
As Latin America’s biggest animation studio, Anima Estudios has created such feature-length movies as Top Cat and Wicked Flying Monkeys. It is also the first animation studio in Latin America to produce an original series for Netflix, Las Leyendas, which will debut next year.
