L.A.-based private equity firm Shamrock Capital Advisors has acquired a majority stake in London-based production and licensing company Silvergate Media.

The acquisition, the terms of which were not disclosed, is designed to accelerate global growth for the Octonauts producer, which is now in a position to further expand its IP, library rights, digital capabilities and presence in China.

Silvergate CEO Waheed Alli and chairman William Astor, who together founded the company in 2011, will continue in their respective roles.

Silvergate recently teamed up with CCTV in China for the fifth season of Octonauts. Additional Silvergate projects currently in production include a new preschool series for Nickelodeon, entitled Sunny Day, which will air in 2017. It is also in pre-production on several new programs for Disney, YouTube and Netflix.

The deal comes less than a year after fellow Octonauts producer Brown Bag Films was acquired by Canadian prodco 9 Story Media Group in a move that bolstered the former’s creative 2D-animation and distribution capabilities with the latter’s CGI expertise.
