Michigan-based construction toyco Magformers is teaming up with Nickelodeon for its first foray into licensed products. A new preschool line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-branded building kits is set to launch at US retail this spring.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Half-Shell Heroes magnetic sets will allow kids to build with Magformers squares and triangles to create turtle towers by either matching the characters to their colors and/or interchanging them as they see fit.

Once the structure is built, the magnets will stick together and form 3D structures from a 2D design. The product line features three sets—18 pieces with four turtle cards, 38 pieces with eight turtle cards and 60 pieces with 12 turtle cards.

The partnership sees Magformers and Nick─which has recently bolstered its consumer products team─tapping into a growing construction category that reached US$2.4 billion in sales last year.

Since launching in 2011, Magformers has made its name through its Magnets in Motion 61-piece set, which was a finalist for a TOTY this year.
