Turner EMEA has elevated seasoned exec Tarek Mounir to the role of VP and GM for the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey, Greece and Cyprus.
Reporting directly to Turner EMEA president Giorgio Stock, Mounir will continue to lead growth opportunities in the region for the broadcaster’s kids, news and general entertainment divisions across pay-TV, free-to-air and digital platforms.
Since joining Turner in 2010 as commercial director for MENA, Greece and Cyprus, and most recently serving as GM for MENAT, Mounir has been instrumental in expanding Turner’s Middle East presence on the kids front by developing a successful local content strategy around shows like the Emirati toon Mansour in the UAE.
Mounir also played a key role in the creation of Cartoon Network Studios Arabia and the company’s deal to launch an upcoming Cartoon Network theme park zone in the region.
Prior to joining Turner, Mounir spent more than a decade with LBC TV and Dubai’s Blink Studios.
The promotion follows Turner’s move last fall to strengthen ties between its international and US operations, with new remits put into effect for EMEA SVP and chief content and creative officer for kids Patricia Hidalgo and Central and Eastern Europe SVP and MD Hannes Heyelmann.
