Disney Channel has greenlit a third season of top-ranked show Girl Meets World, a spin-off of popular ’90s series Boy Meets World.
According to Disney, the series is ranked number one across all kid-targeted, cable TV networks, and it is one of the top five cable TV series of the year with kids two to 11 and tweens nine to 14.
Girl Meets World follows Riley (Rowan Blanchard, Spy Kids), the curious and bright-eyed daughter of highschool sweethearts Corey (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fischel) from the original series, which ran from 1993-2000. Riley and her bold best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter, Sofia the First) navigate the ups and downs of life, while trying to find their place in the world.
Season two of the comedy series highlighted a number of different storylines such as autism, forgiveness and cyber-bullying from a tween girl’s perspective. Season three will see the unlikely duo of Riley and Maya begin their high school years.
Production of the new season begins in January in L.A. and it will premiere in the spring, with new episodes airing Fridays on Disney Channel.
Created by the minds behind Boy Meets World, Michael Jacobs and April Kelly, Girl Meets World is produced by Disney Channels Worldwide-owned It’s A Laugh Productions and Michael Jacobs Productions.
