With a second game released and a 3D CGI-animated feature film on the way, Rovio Entertainment has appointed Biplano Licensing as licensing agent for Angry Birds in France, Spain and Portugal, marking the first time the IP has had representation in these territories.

The Barcelona, Spain-headquartered Biplano Licensing has big plans for Angry Birds in both the French and Iberian markets. It will be looking to take the IP into categories such as toys, games, confectionery, gifts, houseware, accessories, apparel, plush, back-to-school, stationery, backpacks, promotions and more.

Biplano ‘s program will target kids four and up, as well as a large secondary market of young adults and gift buyers. Products are slated for retail in late spring, just ahead of the film’s scheduled May debut.

In early September, Maurizio Distefano Licensing also got in on the Angry Birds action, picking up licensing rights for the video game-based property in Italy. Licensees are expected to be announced this fall and products will also be on shelf in time for the film’s launch.

In other Angry Birds news, Rovio Entertainment has refocused its efforts on its core competencies of games, media and consumer products after announcing more than 260 layoffs in August.
