Looking to capitalize on the popularity of a recent mash-up special between two of its popular live-action comedy series, Lab Rats: Bionic Island (pictured) and Mighty Med, Disney XD has commissioned spin-off series Lab Rats: Elite Force.
In a crossover episode that aired on Disney XD on July 22, “Lab Rats vs. Mighty Med,” a total of 1.3 million viewers in the US tuned in, setting a one-year high for Lab Rats. The special was Mighty Med‘s number-one telecast in total viewers and number two in the kids two to 11 and kids six to 11 demos. Additionally, the ep ranked first in its timeslot across kids six to 11, kids two to 11, and boys six to 11 and boys two to 11.
Production of Lab Rats: Bionic Island begins in October, and the series is expected to premiere in 2016. Lab Rats creators Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore are executive producing the series from Disney-owned prodco It’s A Laugh Productions.
The series will be set in the Lab Rats world after the Mighty Med hospital is destroyed by an unknown group of super villains. Mighty Med’s Kaz (Bradley Steven Perry), Oliver (Jake Short) and Skylar (Paris Berelc) team up with Lab Rats’ Chase (Billy Unger) and Bree (Kelli Berglund) to create a powerful elite force combining their bionic abilities and superpowers to track down the villains and keep the world safe.
