Univision snaps up Sesame Amigos

Univision has landed the exclusive broadcast rights to Sesame Workshop's new half-hour program Sesame Amigos, the producer's first-ever Spanish-language version of Sesame Street made for US audiences.

Hispanic-targeting US net Univision has landed the exclusive broadcast rights to Sesame Workshop’s new half-hour Spanish-language program Sesame Amigos, which will debut on the network’s Saturday morning children’s block Planeta U on August 1 at 8:30 a.m. ET/PT.

The 26-episode series is the first-ever version of Sesame Street designed specifically for a Spanish-speaking US audience.

Featured learning segments will include Bert and Ernie’s Great Adventures, Cookie’s Crumby Pictures and The Furchester Hotel, starring Elmo and Cookie Monster.

In addition, popular Hispanic celebrities such as Diego Luna (pictured), Vahdir Derbez, and Leslie Grace, along with Univision celebrities including Sal y Pimenta hosts Carlos Calderon and Lourdes Stephen, will appear in scripted segments with Elmo, Lola, Rosita and their friends.

Planeta U broadcasts from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. ET/PT and targets kids from preschool to high school.
