Universal Partnerships & Licensing has appointed Toronto’s Spin Master as the global master toy partner for its upcoming 3D-animated film, The Secret Life of Pets, produced by Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures.

Spin Master plans to develop a wide range of toys for the adventure/comedy movie, including plush, figurines and  interactive and motorized toys that will hit retail shelves in May 2016 ahead of the film’s July 8 North American theatrical release.

Featuring voice work from popular comedy actors Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet and Kevin Hart, The Secret Life of Pets is about a group of pets left to their own devices after their owners leave for work or school.

It’s the fifth animated feature collaboration between Illumination and Universal Pictures after the Despicable Me franchise, Hop and Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax.
