After strength of sales for its Frozen-related merchandise helped drive Disney to a record US$7.5 billion profit in 2014, it comes as no surprise that the House of Mouse has confirmed Frozen 2 is on the way.

The announcement was made yesterday during a shareholders meeting. While Disney did confirm the sequel, it has yet to provide a release date or further details, other than that Frozen 2 will feature the same creative team and cast.

The sequel will build on the popularity of Frozen, which raked in US$1.3 billion at the global box office and drove more than US$1 billion in merchandise sales. CEO Bob Iger also told shareholders that 2014 was the best year in the company’s history, with revenue up 8% to US$48.8 billion and income up 22% to US$7.5 billion.

The news comes as Disney releases its new short film, Frozen Fever, which is preceding screenings of its live-action remake of Cinderella that debuted in US theaters today.

Timed to the release of Frozen Fever and the Frozen 2 news, Disney Publishing Worldwide issued an update to its Frozen: Storybook Deluxe mobile and tablet app.

The largest update since the app first launched in November 2013, it features content based on Frozen Fever, the next chapter in the Frozen story.

Disney also announced that Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released on May 26, 2017, and that the first stand-alone Star Wars movie featuring characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga is titled Rogue One and will bow in December 2016.
