Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels is adding star power to its cast with the addition of Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is joining the animated series for season two.

Starring in a recurring role, Gellar joins the cast of husband Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar, Taylor Gray and David Oyelowo.

Having just finished up its first season on Disney XD in the US, Star Wars Rebels was a ratings driver for Disney, reaching over 49 million viewers overall, including 5.6 million boys ages six to 11 and 10.9 million kids ages six to 11.

Continuing the tradition of the Star Wars saga, Star Wars Rebels takes place between Star Wars Episodes III and IV, telling the story of the motley crew of the starship Ghost.

Season two was greenlit by Disney XD last October and the franchise has a growing consumer products line which includes toys, books and apps.
