In a deal that brings Disney Junior content to its streaming service for the first time, Hulu has acquired the exclusive SVOD rights to hit animated series Doc McStuffins and Bunnytown.
Hulu also picked up the non-exclusive rights to Disney Junior original Handy Manny.
Rolling out this spring, all titles will be made available to stream commercial-free within Hulu’s Kids section.
All eps of the first season of Doc McStuffins will be released, with subsequent seasons made available to Hulu subscribers after the last episode of each season airs. All Handy Manny and Bunnytown eps will also roll out on the online video site, through a multi-year agreement.
Adding Disney content to Hulu marks a significant addition the SVOD’s kids programming lineup. The Disney Junior trio joins full seasons series like Sesame Street, Wild Kratts, WorldWorld, Zou and Caillou.
As the exclusive SVOD home for Doc, Hulu is able to tap into the popularity of the top-rating Emmy-nominated series. For Disney, the deal marks further expansion in the SVOD space. In 2012, Netflix and Disney signed an industry-first agreement making Netflix the pay-TV home of all live-action and animated feature films released by Disney theatrically, beginning in 2016.
