Canada’s Family Channel found ratings success with the reality tween drama The Next Step, so the broadcaster is reteaming with Temple Street Productions and creator Frank van Keeken for a new half-hour show, The Music Room.
The tween drama, with its own original soundtrack, follows young performers that are part of an elite music program.
DHX-owned Family ordered 26 episodes of The Music Room, with production set for spring 2015.
The commission was unveiled Monday by Michael Goldsmith, director, original programming at DHX Television, and David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, executive producers and co-presidents of Temple Street Productions.
Family Channel recently renewed The Next Step for a third season to return on March 16.
The Music Room is produced by Temple Street Productions and executive produced by van Keeken, Schneeberg and Fortier.
