On the heels of Michelle Raimo Kouyate’s departure as production president of Sony Pictures Animation last week, the family entertainment studio has tapped veteran DreamWorks Animation producer Kristine Belson as its new president.

Belson joins Sony Animation after a 1o years with DreamWorks, where she started as head of development in 2005 and went on to earn an Academy Award nomination for The Croods and an executive producer credit on the hit film How to Train Your Dragon.

Reporting to Amy Pascal, the co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, Belson is tasked with leading the development and production of original content, including current and future franchises.

Sony Animation has found global success with comedic films such as Hotel Transylvania, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and The Smurfs.

Next up for the studio is Hotel Transylvania 2, set for September 2015, and an untitled Smurfs movie slated for August 2016.
