Entertainment One Licensing (eOne) is bringing a big friendly giant to movie screens and retailers across Europe and the UK, thanks to a newly minted licensing deal with DreamWorks Studios.

DreamWorks has granted eOne Licensing pan-European and UK merch rights to upcoming film The BFG, an adaption of Road Dahl’s popular 1982 children’s book, helmed by Steven Spielberg.

eOne is also distributing the movie in all forms of media across the UK, and plans to launch an integrated, cross-platform campaign to support the film’s release in the summer of 2016—100 years after Dahl’s birth in Llandaff, Wales. eOne will also work closely with Striker Entertainment, the licensing agent handling all other remaining territories.

DreamWorks landed the film rights to the book in 2010 and Melissa Mathison has scripted the screenplay. Spielberg is also producing the film with Frank Marshall and Sam Mercer, executive producers Kathleen Kennedy, John Madden and Michael Siegel, and co-producers Kristie Macosko Krieger and Adam Somner.

Dahl’s children’s novels have sold more than 200 million copies worldwide, including 37 million in the UK.
