Guardians of the Galaxy blasts into new merch

Getting its Groot on: Disney Consumer Products expands the film's CP ahead of its DVD release on December 9, including new products for the property's breakout stars Groot and Rocket Raccoon (pictured).

Get ready for more Groot in the toy aisle. Following the theatrical success of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyand in support of its DVD release on December 9, Disney Consumer Products is going big for the property’s US merch and retail program.

The Guardians CP line now includes products from licensees KIDdesigns (Dancing Groot, toys), Funko (collectibles), Hot Wheels (cars), Just Play (plush) and Dragon (models).

On the apparel side, Mad Engine, C-Life, Hybrid-Jem Sportswear and Freeze have all signed on to produce t-shirts for kids and adults, while AME is producing boys pajamas and Her Universe is making Guardians-branded Gamora and Nebula apparel.

For accessories, partners include ThinkGeek (jewelry), MZ Berger (watches), Accutime (watches) and footwear maker BBC (Rocket Raccoon slippers). Rounding out the list are American Greetings (party goods), Jay Franco (home goods) and Vandor (drinkware).

Debuting in July, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy went on to gross more than US$768 million worldwide, becoming the biggest domestic film of 2014. A sequel has already been announced for wide release in May 2017.
