Family drama Katie Moraig, Cartoon Network and The Lego Movie notched big wins at last night’s 2014 British Academy of Film and Television’s Children’s Awards ceremony in London.
CBeebies/Move On Up co-production Katie Moraig took home two awards—one for drama production and another for performer, won by Cherry Campbell (pictured) in the title role.
At nine years old, Campbell becomes the youngest BAFTA winner ever, taking over from the previous title holder, Harley Bird as the voice of Peppa Pig in 2011.
For top broadcaster, Cartoon Network won Channel of the Year for the first time and its massively popular series Adventure Time snapped up the international award.
On the feature film front, the stacked category included Frozen, Maleficent and How to Train Your Dragon 2, but it was Warner Bros.’ The Lego Movie that came out on top.
Frozen, however, did win best feature in the BAFTA Kids’ Vote, which saw more than 200,000 votes for winners in four categories come in from kids ages seven to 14.
The additional Kids’ Vote winners were Jessie (television), Minecraft (game) and Bin Weevils (website).
Taking home the preschool animation award was CBeebies series Sarah & Duck, Aardman’s Shaun the Sheep landed the animation distinction, while Dick & Dom (Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood) won in the presenter category.
It was also a big night for Kindle Entertainment, which won the independent production company of the year award and one of its programs, online mystery/drama Dixi, scored the BAFTA for interactive original.
Other notable interactive awards went to Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8 (game) and Disney Animated (interactive).
Rounding out the BAFTAs, Peter Firmin (Clangers, Bagpuss) won a special award recognizing the puppet maker and illustrator’s outstanding contribution to children’s media.
