The virtual world of Neopets is coming to digital comics, thanks to a deal between Neopets owner and educational game developer JumpStart and Berkeley, California-based media and tech company Madefire.

In the new creative partnership, JumpStart is supplying Madefire with stories to create a line of Motion Books digital comics based on the virtual world.

The first issue of the Neopets Motion Books series went live yesterday. Subsequent titles are launching on November 14, November 24 and December 8. After that, Madefire plans to publish a new issue bi-weekly.

Available on Madefire’s iOS and Android apps, and the web, the first issue is free. Additional titles are priced at US$0.99.

According to JumpStart, Neopets currently has 71 million registered users who have created more than 279 million Neopets. Visitors to the site each spend an average of two hours per month on the virtual world, which also has 67 million monthly game plays. The news comes as Neopets prepares to celebrate its 15th anniversary on November 15.
