Just in time to set sail for MIPCOM, Toronto, Canada-based Breakthrough Entertainment has acquired Pirate Express, a new 2-D animated series produced by fellow Canuck studio Atomic Cartoons and Australia’s Sticky Pictures.
Pirate Express (52 x 11 minutes) was commissioned in 2013 by Teletoon in Canada and Nine Network in Australia. This comedy-adventure series follows the high seas adventures of 12-year-old Newt, who captains the Pirate Express and watches over a motley crew of pirates, including former captain LaPoutine.
In other Breakthrough news, the company’s new live-action comedy Max & Shred premiered yesterday on Nickelodeon in the US, with a Canadian debut set for today on Corus Entertainment’s YTV.
