Game night gets digital

Hasbro and Ubisoft are teaming up to launch new game channel that brings classic Hasbro brands like Monopoly and Risk to video game consoles.

In an effort to charge up its games category, Hasbro is teaming up with Ubisoft to create the Hasbro Game Channel. Taking Hasbro’s classic board games into the digital age, the channel will be available for download on a number of video game consoles.

Hasbro’s new venture¬†will feature games based on its most popular brands, including Monopoly, Risk and Trivial Pursuit. Slated for a global fall launch, the channel will be available for download on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.¬†All games will also be available for download individually on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

Recently, the world’s second-largest toy maker posted it second quarter earnings, reporting an 8% increase in revenue largely due to the success of its Transformers and Marvel toy lines. Its Q2 growth was offset by a 12% decrease of sales in its games. While classic games like Monopoly and The Game of Life contributed positively to the category, sales of Twister, Duel Masters and Magic: The Gathering brought profits down. With this new game channel, Hasbro is giving its traditional board games a digital reboot.
