MarVista Entertainment is launching a new digital entertainment division to license original and acquired content to online platforms across North America. The L.A.-based distributor already has a sizable library of original content, co-productions and third-party acquisitions, which includes more then 300 films and 2,000 hours of  TV content.

MarVista Digital Entertainment will launch August 1 with the release of the teen comedy Zapped, which made its world debut on Disney Channel US last month. The digital platform also plans to release a new music special or documentary each quarter to offer a behind-the-scenes look at current pop music stars.

Vanessa Shapiro (pictured), current EVP of distribution, will lead the division. Scott Kirkpatrick will take on the new role of director of distribution for the digital division, while Rebecca Shipley joins the company as manager of digital distribution.
