Former Little Airplane and Disney producer Tone Thyne is stepping into the newly created role of VP of creative at Boston-based FableVision, as the interactive development studio looks to significantly ramp up original content development for multiple platforms.

Starting tomorrow, Thyne will spearhead the company’s development of original animated properties, including television, games, apps and other digital content, primarily for pre-K and youth markets.

FableVision has spent the past 18 years working with educational publishers, broadcasters, researchers and institutions, including Scholastic, Sesame Workshop, PBS Kids, and the Jim Henson Company, developing software, apps, animation websites and digital storybooks.

Gary Goldberger, FableVision president, says the company will continue to take a transmedia approach to content development, with the goal of creating more preschool TV content for multiple platforms.

“The way the industry is heading right now, everyone is getting content in different ways,” Thyne tells Kidscreen. “FableVision has many facets going into making well-rounded IP. And I’m bringing the TV part to complete the puzzle.”

Thyne’s experience is steeped in TV production, having served as the supervising producer for Little Airplane’s The Wonder Pets! for Nick Jr., Go Baby! for Disney Junior, and Laurie Berkner’s co-creation Sing It, Laurie! for Sprout. He is currently the co-creator, designer, and executive producer of the new animated series The Adventures of Napkin Man!, airing on Canada’s CBC. Thyne was an 11-year veteran of Walt Disney Feature Animation where he had a hand in classic animated films rangingĀ fromĀ The Lion King through Fantasia Continued and everything in-between.
