Sesame Workshop, HIT Entertainment and Nelvana Enterprises are now set to see their shows stream on the new YOU Kids On Demand subscription service that’s set to launch in China later this year.
The new YOU Kids service is part of YOU On Demand, currently a leading multiplatform entertainment and VOD company in China that streams both Hollywood and Chinese-produced titles. The company already has deals in place for its main on-demand service with Disney Media Distribution, Paramount, Warner Bros. and NBC Universal.
All three content licensing deals allow for distribution across digital cable, mobile, IPTV and internet, including OTT. The deal currently focuses on the licenses for preschool series including Elmo’s World and Play With Me Sesame (Sesame Workshop); Bob the Builder and Thomas & Friends (HIT); and Max & Ruby, Maurice Sendak’s Little Bear, The Berenstain Bears and Miss Spider’s Sunny Patch Friends (Nelvana).
Sesame, HIT and Nelvana have all been strategically active in the SVOD content licensing market, as the number of kid-targeting services across the globe – and particularly within the US – continue to rise in popularity and scale.
