London-based indie Silvergate Media has signed a broadcasting and merchandising rights deal with Germany’s Super RTL for the Peter Rabbit brand across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Alto Aldige.

Co-produced with Penguin UK and Nickelodeon US, the new Peter Rabbit animated series consists of 50 x 11-minute episodes and three half-hour specials. The series launched in the top time slot on Super RTL’s Toggolino in November.

The licensing and merchandising deal includes both incarnations of ¬†Beatrix Potter’s popular rabbit, Classic Peter Rabbit and Peter Rabbit TV – based on the new CGI animated TV program. Activity planned for the brand includes promotions, live entertainment, music, magazine publishing and home entertainment.

The relationship between the companies isn’t a new one – Super RTL has been representing Silvergate’s Octonauts property in the territory for a number of years.
