Kids looking to improve their vocabulary skills by tuning into Scholastic Media’s language-themed animated series WordGirl can look forward to seventh and eighth seasons, thanks to a PBS Kids pick up of 26 brand-new episodes.
The greenlight will take the acclaimed series created and produced by Scholastic’s animation studio Soup2Nuts through 2015 and brings the total number of episodes to 130.
Since launching as a 20 x two-minute short series entitled The Amazing Colossal Adventures of WordGirl in 2006, the series for boys and girls featuring the titular language-loving superheroine has gone on to win multiple Emmy and Gracie awards. And it has successfully expanded into toy merchandise and the world of mobile apps for iOS and Android tablets including the latest release WordGirl Superhero Training App.
Returning members of the all-star voice cast include Dannah Phirman (MadTV) as WordGirl, Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live) as the narrator and SpongeBob Squarepants’ Tom Kenny as Dr. Two Brains, TJ and Beau Handsome.
