Studio 100 secures four-film distribution deal

Munich, Germany-based Studio 100 Media has sewn up a deal with Universum Film that sees the German distributor acquire the rights to its animated feature films Maya The Bee, Vic The Viking, Heidi and Blinky Bill.

Munich, Germany-based Studio 100 Media has sewn up a deal with Universum Film that sees the German distributor acquire the rights to its animated feature films Maya The Bee, Vic The Viking, Heidi and Blinky Bill.

Maya the Bee the movie will be the first release under the terms of the agreement and is expected to premiere in German theaters in September 2014.

The 3D stereoscopic movie is an Australian/German co-production between Studio 100 Media and Buzz Studios. Studio 100 Media’s Patrick Elmendorff and Buzz Studios’ Jim Ballantine are executive producers with Buzz’s Barbara Stephens (The Woodlies) and Studio 100 Media’s Thorsten Wegener (Momo) on board as producers.

Studio 100’s new film division Studio 100 Film will handle all global film sales for the four films and additional film projects.

Maya the Bee the movie follows the adventures of young bee Maya and her desire to escape a regimented hive life for freedom and exploration.

The character, which was first introduced in books, has now been popular for more than a century. The IP first headed to TV in the 1970’s and was recently reborn as a brand new Studio 100-produced CG-animated TV series which is now been sold in more than 130 countries worldwide.
