A new platform and suite of iPad appisodes are in the works for PlaySquare, creator of the Touchable Television concept for tablets that combines existing children’s TV episodes with original interactive content.
The first new apps are interactive adaptations of PBS Kids series WordWorld, produced in collaboration with PlaySquare’s partner Curious Pictures. The Pirate Ship app lets kids play pirate with WordWorld characters and eight interactive scenes introduce early reading skills, rhyming, letter recognition and word building. This app will be available in the iTunes store this month, with additional offerings, including a new holiday appisode, set to be released monthly.
PlaySquare launched its first appisode in beta in July 2012. The Happy Birthday Dog appisode has been a hit with more than 3.4 million sessions totaling more than 22 million minutes of play.
Priced at $2.99, the appisodes are housed on the new Playsquare platform, which will be available for free to consumers with any PlaySquare app purchased. The new platform delivers one window for all future PlaySquare content.
