London, UK-based Magic Light Pictures, home to The Gruffalo brand, is marking its foray into the mobile space with its first interactive app, which is based on the preschool book and animated film Room on the Broom.
Room on the Broom Games, developed in conjunction with Stormcloud Games, is available starting today for iOS and Android devices. The app is based on the classic picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler as well as the Room on the Broom animated film that premiered last year in the UK on BBC One.
The app, which features games based on Scheffler’s original illustrations, is the latest extension of the Room on the Broom brand. Magic Light Pictures has rolled out the first phase of its merchandising program with plush and puzzles, and the DVD launched in the UK in March with more than 100,000 units sold to date. Internationally, the Room on the Broom DVD is also being distributed in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, Israel, Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong and Scandinavia. Room on the Broom has also just been picked up by PBS Sprout in the US to be shown at Halloween, and the film has also been nominated for a 2013 international Kids Emmy Award in the preschool category.
As well as building up the Room on the Broom, Gruffalo and Gruffalo’s Child brands, Magic Light Pictures says it is looking for a new property – animation or live action- that can be built similarly across mediums and licensing categories.
