Scholastic is paying attention to the growing influence of tweens, as the children’s publisher has picked up the North American rights to two new middle grade novels by Chet & Bernie author Spencer Quinn.
The first dog detective-themed Bowser & Jolene book is planned for release in 2015. Spencer Quinn is also known as the crime novel author Peter Abrahams.
Bowser & Jolene, which uses a canine point of view, follows a dog detective paired with an 11-year-old girl, Jolene. When a prize stuffed marlin is stolen from Grammy’s bait and tackle shop, Jolene and Bowser decide to take on the case. But what looks like a straight forward break in soon becomes as tangled as a tourist’s fishing line.
Quinn’s latest book The Sound and the Furry will debut this month from Atria.
