In a move that strengthens its new Reading Rainbow iPad subscription app, digital media company RRKidz has partnered with National Geographic Kids to add new non-fiction books and video to the app’s library.

The deal includes the additions of two new content islands—a NatGeo Kids branded island and an “Awesome People Island” featuring books and videos, hosted and narrated by LeVar Burton, the co-founder of RRKidz.

Both islands are expected to launch on the app in early 2013. The NatGeo Kids island features books from its popular series including photography-themed Picture the Seasons, National Geographic Readers and National Geographic Little Kids Look & Learn picture books for pre-readers.

The new Awesome People island showcases dozens of new books and video field trips about heroes, important historical figures and everyday people who make a difference.

Book offerings from the acclaimed A Picture Book of… series featuring the likes of Harriet Tubman, Helen Keller, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln, as well as video field trips including a tour of the Oval Office and a visit to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery are featured in the new content.

A brand new video series entitled “I Love My Job Because…,” which introduces children to career possibilities, is also a key highlight.
