Minds Eye Entertainment announced Monday a partnership that will see it adapt the fantasy book series Avalon: Web of Magic to film.

The Saskatchewan-based prodco will team up with the U.S.-based Red Sky Entertainment and U.K.-based Moving Pictures Media to bring Robert Mandell’s and Rachel Roberts’ books, about four seemingly ordinary teenagers who join forces with animals to protect a magical world from an evil sorceress, to life.

The books, published by Tor/MacMillan Publishing Group, are targeted at young adults and have sold more than twomillion copies worldwide.

Isabella Battiston of Moving Pictures Media will join the production team through the development stage, and Grumpy Old Men-helmer Donald Petrie is attached as director.

Series creator Mandell will pen the screenplay.

Avalon has development financing from partners Saskfilm, Minds Eye and Moving Pictures Media.

Minds Eye Entertainment plans to produce several feature length films based on the book series.
