In a move that strengthens its commitment to on demand children’s content and family viewing, the pilot global BBC iPlayer app is set to introduce the CBeebies and Family brands on its service this summer across Western Europe.

The announcement was made today by the iPlayers’ head of programming and scheduling Derren Lawford at the Children’s Media Conference (CMC) in Sheffield.

In addition, deals have been secured to provide the hit CBeebies preschool series Justin’s House starring Justin Fletcher and live-action/puppet series Mr. Bloom’s Nursery on the iPlayer.

The two new series add to a growing list of CBeebies shows currently available on the app include Something Special, Zingzillas, 3rd and Bird, Charlie and Lola, In the Night Garden, Show Me Show Me and Tikkabilla.

Fletcher has also been tapped to curate a selection of his favorite CBeebies preschool programs to appear on the app’s homepage.

During CMC, Lawford confirmed that family and kids programming is the third biggest genre on the iPlayer, preschool series Charlie and Lola is one of the app’s top five shows of any genre, and 17% of surveyed subscribers say their children use the app too.

The global BBC iPlayer offers a limited amount of content for free, but its core business model is subscription-based.
