Cartoon Connection comes to Canada

Sixty European decision makers in animation are traveling to Canada this December to take part in Cartoon Connection, a conference and networking event aimed at increasing co-operation and co-productions between the Canadian and European animation industries.

Sixty European decision makers in animation are traveling to Canada this December to take part in Cartoon Connection, a conference and networking event aimed at increasing co-operation and co-productions between the Canadian and European animation industries.

Hosted by CARTOON, the European association of animation film, the event will take place in Quebec City at the Hilton Hotel from December 5th to 8th. Roughly 1,000 business meetings for the 100 participants will be organized with key broadcasters in attendance, including France Televisions, Canal+, Super RTL, RAI Fiction, CBeebies – BBC Children’s, Lagadere Active and M6.

In addition, speakers from both sides will present insights into the respective markets, focusing on:

Financing – outlining European tax credit systems, the MEDIA Program of the EU, regional and national funding, Canadian funding, such as the Shaw Rocket Fund and the Canadian Media Fund;

Animated pre-school series and comedy series – analysis and comparisons between European and Canadian broadcasters’ needs and cultural differences;

Co-productions between Europe and Canada – advantages, difficulties and case studies;

Legal and finacial aspects;

Cross-media approach to animation programs.
