Mom’s mobile and tablet use reaches new heights

A new study from Disney Interactive Media Group and Ipsos OTX MediaCT has confirmed that moms are using tablets and mobile devices more than ever in an effort to stay connected - and play - with their families.

A new study from Disney Interactive Media Group and Ipsos OTX MediaCT has confirmed that moms are using tablets and mobile devices more than ever in an effort to stay connected – and play – with their families.

The June 2011 second installment of the M.O.M. – Mom on a Mission research study, which started in 2010, has found that 96% of the moms surveyed said they owned or used a computer, up 9% from 2010, 91% use a mobile device, up 11% from 2010, and 7% of moms surveyed owned a tablet, up a whopping 133% from 2010.

The move to a more mobile lifestyle is, in part, due to the children’s entertainment opportunities that abound on these devices, as 48% of moms who own a tablet and 39% of moms who own a smartphone said the number-one activity they engage in with their children on their respective devices is playing a game.

In terms of communicating with their families and others, 53% of moms use their mobile devices to talk with their children, 45% visit social networks (up 33% from last year) and 30% play games with their children – a 25% jump from 2010. Of the mothers surveyed, 44% own smartphones – and they’re averaging nearly four hours a day on them.
