Angry Birds developer Rovio has its eyes on animated content, acquiring Finnish animation studio Kombo for an undisclosed sum. The Helsinki-based animation studio will now focus its production efforts entirely on animated content for Rovio properties.

The acquisition falls in line with Rovio’s media strategy of becoming a one-stop powerhouse in animated entertainment.

Rovio was originally founded in 2003 as a mobile game development studio and has gone on to experience exponential growth via its blockbuster Angry Birds franchise. The fellow Finnish company says it will continue to expand in all areas of the entertainment business –including broadcast media, merchandising and publishing- and is on the lookout for more talent in both animated entertainment and app development.
