On the heels of the eliminating 30 jobs across its radio and television divisions last week, Canadian broadcaster Corus Entertainment has promoted Joanna Webb from VP of programming to VP and head of programming & production for the entire TV group, which includes Corus Kids nets YTV, Treehouse and Nickelodeon Canada, and the company’s suite of specialty and pay-TV channels.
Webb’s remit now encompasses the oversight of the children’s channels, along with adult-targeted fare, such as W Network, Cosmo TV and VIVA. A representative for Corus also confirmed that more announcements concerning changes to Corus Kids’ programming and production operations will be announced in the coming weeks. Right now, she said, ‘it’s a work in progress.’
In light of the pending announcements, expect to see the role of current Corus Kids VP of programming and production Jocelyn Hamilton to change somewhat. Additionally, several industry sources have said that Brenda Nietupski, director of programming at Treehouse, is no longer with the broadcaster. The representative for Corus would neither confirm nor deny the reports.
And in a move unrelated to the recent moves at the Toronto, Canada-based broadcaster, David Wiebe, former director of content for YTV, has packed his bags and moved to California to join toyco Mattel, where he is now supervising producer/director for Mattel Entertainment.
KidScreen will continue updating developments as information becomes available.
