HarperCollins Children’s Books UK has won the heated auction and world publishing deal for rights to breakthrough young author Ivan Brett’s upcoming book series.
The deal for world rights to four of his books marks the first acquisition for HarperCollins Children’s editorial director Harriet Wilson.
Brett’s first book,Casper Candlewacks in Death by Pigeon, is scheduled for publication in May 2011. Written for children ages nine and up, the books will feature the adventures of Casper Candlewacks, the only boy with any sense in a village full of fools.
Born in Edinburgh, the 21-year-old Brett accepted HarperCollins’ offer on the morning of his final college exam.
