Disney/ABC Television Group is set to launch Disney Junior, a new multiplatform 24-hour preschool channel scheduled to make its US debut in 2012.
The channel will incorporate learning and development themes designed for kids age two to seven and will provide affiliate partners with VOD offerings, an HD network and a Spanish language SAP feed.
The 24-hour Disney Junior schedule will include a blend of 200 old and new series, including Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Imagination Movers and Jungle Junction. Disney’s classic and contemporary movies will also be showcased.
In the US, the new Disney Junior channel takes the place of SOAPnet, currently available in 75 million homes. Prior to the launch of the 24-hour channel, the Disney Junior brand will be introduced on Disney Channel’s daily programming block for preschoolers (currently Playhouse Disney).
Outside the US, the 22 Playhouse Disney channels and blocks, currently available in 29 languages in 156 territories, will be rebranded Disney Junior starting in 2011.
