PBS KIDS Sprout, the US 24-hour preschool channel available on TV, on demand and online, is set to launch its own separate, 24-hour HD channel this September.

Sprout HD will simulcast with its standard-definition counterpart, but will allow preschoolers to experience shows like Sesame Street, Barney & Friends and Caillou all in HD. Sprout has also been shooting original programming in HD, and will look to acquire news HD shows going forward.

Sprout was created as a partnership between Comcast Corporation, HIT Entertainment, PBS and Sesame Workshop and introduced its VOD service in April 2005.
