Canadian prodco Tricon Films & Television has scooped up Jon Rutherford to grow its global distribution efforts as VP of international sales and acquisitions.

Together with Carrie Mudd, SVP of development and international sales, Andrea Gorfolova, president and Lia Dolente, manager of international sales and publicity, Rutherford will be responsible for sales of Tricon’s factual and scripted catalogue, with his long-term goals focused on building up Tricon’s fledgling kids division.

Along with Mudd, Rutherford will focus on worldwide television and home video sales, as well as building digital, new media, merchandising and licensing strategies for all titles. Together they will continue to build Tricon’s sales team and will lead the charge to acquire new content across all genres and platforms.

Rutherford has garnered strong international alliances with international broadcast and specialty networks over his 13-year career in film and television. Prior to joining Tricon, he worked for Toronto, Canada-based Portfolio Entertainment, where, along with his team, he was responsible for worldwide acquisitions and sales of the company’s library, which he helped increase to over 2,000 episodes of programming.
