Australia’s ABC3 will develop a second season of activeTV’s Prank Patrol Australia. The agreement involves the development of 39 new 30-minute episodes of the Australian version of reality series Prank Patrol, created by Canada’s Apartment 11 Productions. Production will begin this summer. The series (26 x 30-minutes) debuted on digital channel ABC3 in December 2009 and is aimed at the five-to-12 set.
Additionally, ABC Commercial has acquired mutli-platform rights to the series for the Australian and New Zealand territories, which entails home entertainment, merchandise, mobile content, online content, transport/hotel and live event rights. The first DVD will be released next month.
ActiveTV acquired the Australian rights to Prank Patrol in October 2008 from LA-based MarVista Entertainment, the series’ worldwide distributor, who debuted the show’s first season this week at MIPTV. The original Prank Patrol series airs on YTV Canada with a total of 100 episodes available for the international market. A UK format also airs on the BBC, for which 40 episodes are available.
