Nickelodeon is set to debut Schoool Gyrls on February 21, a new hour-long original music comedy penned and directed by TeenNick chair Nick Cannon.
The movie takes a look at the eponymous, real-life teen triple threat pop group, discovered by Cannon, who attend an all-girls boarding school. It will be followed by the network’s premiere of Drumline, featuring Cannon.
Meanwhile, the School Gyrls premiere will coincide with the release of a new multimedia book series from Simon & Schuster Children’s Division. S&S imprint Simon Spotlight will publish a movie novelization, while imprint Aladdin Books will publish six original novels based on the three girls.
They’ve also signed to Cannon’s NCredible Entertainment, and will be releasing their debut album from Island Records on March 23, followed by a 10-week US musical tour. Cannon has also teamed up with Archie Comics to bring the School Gyrls into their iconic comic book series, with the cartoon versions of the girls being introduced into Archie issue #607, hitting newsstands nationwide on March 24 and will also be available for download on iTunes and Archie Digital.
