Magic Lantern nabs US$10 million in funding from TF2 Ventures

To help fund its motion picture production over the next three to five years, L.A.-based Magic Lantern Entertainment has secured US$10 million from TV2 Ventures through its Innovation Entertainment label.

The arrangement will provide development funding for up to 20 motion pictures, with Bad Kitty being first on the slate. Based on funny feline character Heathcliff, the blended media/CGI animated comedy-adventure is in pre-production with a 2011 target release date. The script will be penned by famed animation writer Tom Ruegger.

Magic Lantern has mandated that the films in its slate will be based on existing properties, such as a remake, book adaptation, video game or toy, in order to lessen market risks and get a head start on marketing and promo campaigns.
