After much talk about a Disney theme park in China, The Walt Disney Company has received approval for the project in the Pudong district of Shanghai.
The Project Application Report approval gives Disney and its Shanghai partners permission to build and operate the park and start up on prelim development work. The initial phase includes a Magic Kingdom-style park with features tailored to the Shanghai region along with Disney resort amenities.
Meanwhile, Disney also announced that it’s making a US$7 million investment in forest projects for protection in the Amazon, Congo and the US. In partnership with NGOs Conservation International, The Nature Conservancy and The Conservation Fund, Disney is looking to protect threatened wildlife and to combat climate change by reducing fossil fuel use and encouraging the uptake on employing cleaner forms of energy.
