The first-ever Little Airplane Children’s Book Academy is set to take place May 30 to June 1 this year at Little Airplane’s New York City-based studio.

The three-day course will be led by children’s book publisher Brenda Bowen and is designed for professionals and beginners who want to learn what it takes to produce and market kids picture books.

Participants will get an overview of every step in the process of book making, including writing, illustrating, editing, design, legal and production. In addition to Bowen, some noted Children’s book authors, illustrators, editors and others will be on-hand, including Jon Scieszka (Trucktown), Anne Schwartz (publisher of Ian Falconer’s Olivia) and Lee Wade, former creative director of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing.

The Academy runs concurrent with Book Expo America, and tuition includes the three-day admission fee to the Expo.
