With a raft of new Marvel franchises set to make their theatrical debuts in the coming years, Marvel Entertainment and Spider-Man Merchandising have renewed their rights agreement with Hasbro to continue making games and toys through 2017.

With the exception of Japan, Hasbro holds global rights to develop products based on the 5,000-plus characters in the Marvel universe, including Spidey merch for the film and TV properties. The new agreement covers both the classic comic book look and film and TV-based product lines.

The license extension guarantees US$100 million in royalties, with the potential for an additional US$140 million in royalty guarantees to Marvel. Hasbro is already set to release product based on X-Men Origins: Wolverine as the movie preps for its May 1 big-screen debut, and is already planning product and marketing programs for Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Avengers, X-Men, Thor and Captain America.
